What is Chaga (Fin-Chaga)?

Chaga (Inonotus obliquus) is a type of fungus that grows on birch trees in cold regions such as Siberia, Finland, Northern Canada, Alaska, and some northern parts of the continental United States. It is of particular importance because it has been found to have a wide range of medicinal properties. Several hundred years ago (perhaps several millennia), it was determined that Chaga could be consumedas a food. The indigenous Siberians would grind it and put it in stews, soups, and daily beverages. The Siberians found that, despite their harsh climate, the regular consumption of Chaga prevented the onset of degenerative disease. They used it to boost physical stamina and attain long life.

Superoxide Dismutase in Chaga

Chaga mushrooms have the highest levels of Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) found in any natural food and is extremely high in antioxidants. Other foods like wheat grass, broccoli and some cabbages also contain SOD but in much smaller amounts.

DNA Damage Protection

In one study, cells were pretreated with a Chaga mushroom extract, then treated with H2O2 to induce oxidative stress. The pretreated cells displayed less damage than cells that did not receive the Chaga extract.

Alzheimers :

Chaga contains the highest level of superoxide dismutase (SOD) in the world which is an enzyme that promotes the breakdown of free radicals and has been shown to be highly effective in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s. Also Chaga contains Vit B1, B2 B3 which is useful in preventing memory loss and Alzheimer’.

Higher brain functions : Learning and Memory

Significant cognitive enhancement observed after Chaga administration is closely related to higher brain anti-oxidant properties and inhibition of acetylcholinesterase activity.

Probable side effects and contraindication:-

Consuming chaga mushrooms may magnify the effects of anticoagulant medications such as aspirin and warfarin. This raises your risk for bleeding and bruising. The active constituents in the mushroom are a combination of triterpenes, including sterols, betulinic acid and polysaccharides, similar to those in the Reishi mushroom, which also raises bleeding risk when taken with anticoagulant or anti-platelet medicines.

Features of Chaga:
  • Chaga mushrooms are a powerful antioxidant and source of Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) which halts oxidation, especially free radicals like singlet oxygen responsible for damaging tissues.
  • The Chaga Mushroom has been used for improving cognitive function and memory loss.
  • Chaga mushrooms are a source of 200 + Phytonutrients.
  • Chaga contains significant amounts of Riboflavin and Niacin.
  • The Chaga Mushroom contains B and D vitamins, Flavonoids, Phenols, Copper, Calcium, Potassium, Manganese, Zinc Iron and Enzymes.
  • One of nature’s riches sources of the minerals rubidium, potassium, cesium and germanium; everything the body needs to remain alkaline.
  • A great source of Pantothenic acid which aids the adrenal glands and digestive organs.
